This paper is entitled "An Analysis on Pragmatics in Diplomatic language.’ It discusses diplomatic language within linguistic parameters, with the use of theories in pragmatics; mainly, Conversation Maxim and Politeness Maxim.Considering the vague nature of diplomatic language, the paper carries out a fresh approach to applying linguistic theories in pragmatics to look into diplomatic discourse. With the assistance of Grice Cooperative Principle, Conversational Implicature Theory and Conversation Maxim, together with Leech Politeness Maxim, the research centers upon the diplomatic.The paper takes a fresh look into Grice co-operative principle, which is expressed by the use of four maxims; Conversation Maxims and Leech Politeness Principle, which is explained by means of six Politeness Maxims. Together with the above mentioned theories, other topics in linguistic studies such as deixis, honorifics and the use of metaphors have been discussed in relation to diplomatic language use and discourse analysis.Since each country has a different cultural and linguistic background, this research highlights one of the most important areas of research concerning cross-cultural communication, such as misinterpretations and misunderstandings, which can lead to feelings of offence, insult and suspicion on the part of the individuals involved. Also, bringing to light how cross-cultural communication may successfully take place. Apart from the different ways of communicating resulting from cultural differences, the research centers upon the cross-cultural reasons behind different diplomatic strategies, as far as linguistics and society is concerned.This paper also examines how the complexity of diplomatic language and its vague nature may be very difficult to deal with, without the help of linguistic theories to guide interlocuters. Such complexities and vagueness of language may lead to not only the violation of maxims but also the risk of fallacv.
