The vocabulary learning takes an important position in English learning. For a long time, most of the English learners have a feeling that English words are so difficult to learn, to read and to remember. At the same time, the vocabulary acquisition is a long memory and accumulation process. A time-consuming, inefficient vocabulary learning method directly affects the enhancement of academic achievement. Taking the vocabulary study as a breakthrough, this thesis wants to promote students’ability to the English reading comprehension, and build a more reasonable teaching model of English reading. The lower-grade students of YanBian University are taken as the research object, and their poor achievement is the research background for this thesis. The effects about how learning strategies training of English vocabulary can improve students’ ability in English vocabulary learning and reading comprehension were studied in this thesis. Two kinds of English vocabulary learning strategies were chosen in this training: word-formation strategy and associative strategy. The reason is that the word-formation strategy can not only help students understand the structure and sources of vocabularies, but also deepen the understanding of word meaning and word form, and it has a great help for students with lower scores. And the associative strategy can help students to memorize words more vividly, encourage students to make their imagination full play, and remember some words according to their own association. At the same time, it also can help students to improve their English learning interest in words learning. Therefore, teachers should use vocabulary learning strategies flexibly, and try to enable students to get more information in a short period of time, so that students can improve their reading speed and quality.
