Zhu Yixin, whose given name is "Rongsheng" and who styled himself as "Dingfu", who came from Yiwu, Zhejiang, is one of the well-known scholars in the late Qing Dynasty. He was an outspoken minister in government, leaving many sincere, penetrating, practical memorials to the throne. He was a famous professor among the people, cultivating many outstanding personnel for Guangdong and Guangxi provinces. Zhu wrote many books and articles, including five volumes of Questions and Answers in the Innocent Hall, two volumes of Manuscripts of Lanes in Beijing, four volumes of Views on the Book of Former Han, two volumes of essays, one volume of parallel essays, one volume of poems, one volume of test poems, one volume of rhapsodies, two volumes of mixed articles, fifteen volumes of Deqing annals, and so on. The essays of Zhu are more representative, but the situation of the current collection of his essays is complicated. Based on the above reason, this study mainly made an analysis of Zhu and the contents of his essays, and re-categorized those essays, to restore the whole picture of his essay.This paper is composed of three parts.In the first part, the basic situation of Zhu’ family was introduced, and then his social activities was explained in detail from Zhu’s political career and teaching experiences, which brought a more comprehensive understanding of Zhu’s experiences with his resignation as the dividing point.The second part mainly discussed the characters of Zhu’s essays. As a scholar in the feudal society, his essays worked for his political and social life, therefore, this part discussed the relationships between his essays and his political views, teaching experiences as well as his attitude to the imperial examination system. Due to the important role of Kang Youwei in Chinese modern history, one section of this part was used to introduce the communication of Zhu and Kang. The last section summarized Zhu’s ideology limitations expressed from his essays.In the last part, Zhu’s essays were proofread more comprehensively with Zhuoan manuscripts as the master copy and Yiwu Mr. Zhu’s essays, Yiwu Mr. Zhu’s academic letters, collection of Yiwu Mr. Zhu’s academic letters, and Yijiao series as reference copies. It laso added eleven articles which were not included in the master copy.
