The treatise is a case study of Zhu Yixin(1846—1894),a scholar and official in late Qing dynasty. He was born in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, once a dean of Duanxi College and Guangya College in Guangdong Province. The paper tries to demonstrate some sides of Zhu Yixin's studying and life, which wants to emphasize the context of late Qing dynasty.The introduction focused on the origin and purport of this paper, and review the existing academic research relating Zhu and the scholarship in late Qing Dynasty.Chapter one , Zhu Yixin criticized Qianjia learning, especially on philology. The scholarship in late Qing China is a reaction to Qianjia learning, but the way of textual research becomes an inherent part of these scholar studies. Zhu Yixin pursued the meaning and application by a new way, but he is still affected by the style of textual research. He also wanted to conciliate the Han Learning and Song Learning.Chapter two focused on Zhu Yixin's thought about classics and history. Between classics and history, Han learning and Song learning, delicate and grand, Zhu's history studying was complicate, which contains new knowledge because of his concern on application.Chapter three studied the letter from Kang Youwei to Zhu Yixin firstly, to describe the relations between them. Then the paper described the spirit of applying of Zhu and his friends. They are worried about the state. The paper wanted to establish the ties of Zhu Yixin's thought and his political practices.The epilogue analyse the elegiac couplet of Zhu, and summarized the whole paper.
