Researching Yao Xie’s Comments On A Dream Of Red Mansions

"A Dream of Red Mansions"marked the entry of Chinese ancient novels into a golden age. Novel comments had developed gradually since the Ming Dynasty(wanli),and comments on"A Dream of Red Mansions"pushed novel comments to the peak of the theory and practice.Wang Xilian, Zhang Xinzhi, Yao Xie were the three most influential critics, whose comments were most widely spread.The object of this thesis is focused on the comments on "A Dream of Red Mansions" by the famous writer, Yao Xie. His comments on "A dream of Red Mansions" were initially published in the form of synthesized comments and later widely distributed in multiple books.Based on practical commenting versions, this thesis introduces in details the version of the comments on "A Dream of Red Mansions" of Yao Xie and it also extracts, combs and classifies all comments distributed in "A Dream of Red Mansions". It summarizes the characteristics of Yao Xie’s comments on "A Dream of Red Mansions" and analyzes the purpose and the mood of the critic. This thesis explores systematically the comments in terms of theme, characters and grammar so as to confirm the value, status and influence of Yao Xie’s comments on "A Dream of Red Mansions".
