The progress of globalization causes the rapid increase in business communication. Improvement in quality or efficiency for translation works in this field is of important meaning. Domestic and international economy can benefit from the improvement. Relevance Theory was proposed by Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson. It has received wide recognition from international academic field and caused great effects to researches in communication and cognition. Translation can be regarded as an inter-lingual communication, thus it provides the basis for the application of Relevance Theory in translation.This thesis starts with the introduction to Relevance Theory and its comments on translation, namely "Translation is a kind of’Ostension-Inference’process, which involves three parties, goes through two rounds. Then, concrete sample letters are analyzed to summarize characteristics of Business Correspondence. Based on the framework mentioned above, sample letters and their translation are compared and commented. Furthermore, relative translation strategies are proposed in three levels:lexical level, syntactical level and style level. Through analysis, it is found out that the application of Relevance Theory is of positive value to improve the quality and efficiency of Business Correspondence translation.This thesis tries to improve translation strategies of Business Correspondence with the application of Relevance Theory and displays Relevance Theory from a new perspective.
