Intercultural business communication becomes increasingly frequent and important on the global stage now, which determines business correspondence,an inevitable communication approach in intercultural communication activities,to be equally dispensable. Its translation at the same time is attracting the attention of scholars and translators, who are expecting to transmit the intercultural information through some efficient methods of translation.Nida's functional equivalence theory is universally acknowledged as the commonly applied translation theory to achieve the linguistic, stylistic and cultural equivalence between source language(SL)and target language(TL)due to its focus on accurate transformation of SL cultural connotation instead of the rigid superficial translation, which can be recognized as a most appropriate theory to translate business correspondence across diversified cultures. Therefore, this thesis carries out an analytic research on the application of functional equivalence theory to business correspondence translation in order to confirm the applicability of functional equivalence theory to business correspondence translation and put theory into practice under the background of intercultural communication. There are three purposes in the research.First, under the theoretical guidance of Nida's functional equivalence, the research tries to confirm the applicability of Nida's functional equivalence in translating business correspondence.Second, after a practical approach of the functional equivalence theory, the research expects to explore the corresponding strategies to transmit intercultural information in businesscorrespondence with equivalent translating theory.Third, this thesis also wants to show the enlightenment of functional equivalence translation theory on translators at last.In order to achieve the research purposes theoretically and practically, this thesis makes an analytic analysis on business correspondence translation with a total of 10 business correspondence texts from different international companies selected.Based on the specially selected texts, the author aims to analyze the equivalent strategies from two aspects: semantics and culture on basis of the linguistic and stylistic features of business correspondence.Through the analysis of various texts, the conclusion can be drawn with great ease. After a precise and accurate approach to business correspondence translation, the author confirms the applicability of functional equivalence theory in business correspondence translation practice by proposing a series of translating strategies.Functional equivalence theory is receptor-oriented,devoting to the realization of SL text function,so it is probable to guarantee the relation between readers and information in both SL and TL texts only when SL and TL receptors obtain equivalent information. In this way, dynamic equivalence in cross-cultural level can be fully realized.Under the guidance of dynamic equivalence theory, the author puts forward the corresponding strategies to translate business correspondence from cross-cultural perspective. In addition,in order to guarantee the quality of translation,it is necessary for business translators to pay much attention to controlling the equivalent transmission of cultural information.
