With the ever-accelerating process of economic globalization, the economic exchange and communication across various countries are becoming increasingly frequent and important around the world. As an important and active major driving force in the global economy, transnational enterprises have been playing a strategic role in the economic development today. And the news release, the vital carrier of information in the enterprises, is contributive to positive corporate image and global popularity of a transnational enterprise, as well as strong competitiveness of its products and capacity in the world market. Up to now, most of the previous stylistic studies focus on the sub-variety of news English such as internet news report, sports news, politic news and economic news reports, while few works involve the study on news release in transnational enterprises. In the current modern society of market economy, news releases in transnational enterprises, as the major communication means of corporate information across different countries, are gradually merging into people’s daily life through different carriers and have formed their unique stylistic features. Therefore, a systematical and comprehensive stylistic analysis of English news release in this field is of great significance and necessity.Starting from a new perspective, this thesis is an attempt to have a stylistic analysis of the news releases in transnational enterprises at both global and local levels, on the basis of the theories and framework of general stylistics. The eighteen news release samples are collected from the published news releases of different large transnational enterprises in different periods of time, from January, 2010to December,2011on the websites of the transnational enterprises as the research samples. Sticking to the scientific attitude, the author will have a comprehensive exploration into the stylistic features of news release in transnational enterprises at graphological, lexical-grammatical and textual levels through both quantitative and qualitative analysis and demonstration by substantial examples, thus providing an effective study perspective in this special sub-variety of genre for language learners and business persons. This thesis consists of six chapters. In Chapter One, a brief introduction to the research background, significance and purpose of the study as well as the organization of the thesis is given. Chapter Two is the literature review, in this part, definitions and different views of style, definition of stylistics and its development as well as procedure and levels of stylistic analysis are presented. And the author also gives a general introduction to the definition, classification, general features of journalistic English and previous study both at home and abroad. Chapter Three is about the research methods including research questions, methods used in the thesis and data collection including data source and standard for selection. Chapter Four and Chapter Five are the main parts of the present thesis. In these two parts, eighteen news releases from different transnational enterprises in different periods of time from January,2010to December,2011are selected as samples for study. In accordance with the theories of general stylistics, the present thesis attempts to make a systematical survey on these news release samples at both global and local views. In Chapter Four, the analysis from the global perspective will include the analysis of discourse context and global structure, in which the discourse analysis contains context of culture and context of situation including field of discourse, tenor of discourse and mode of discourse. And the global structure contains register and genre. In Chapter Five, the local level will include graphological, lexical, syntactic analysis and texture features. The last part comes to the conclusion part of this thesis, in which it will be summarized that the news releases in transnational enterprises share some general features with journalistic English, but have some unique characteristics at the textual and lexical-grammatical levels. On one hand, it aims to deepen the interpretation of stylistic theories for language learners. On the other hand, it is expected to help readers in reading, writing or translating the news release in transnational enterprises, as well as better understanding of the information published by transnational enterprises for the mass media.
