In1894, Japan launched the Sino-Japanese War, China was defeated andforced to sign the “Treaty of Shimonoseki”. Since then, foreigners setoff a frenzy to compete for China’s railway construction rights,management rights and mining right to carve up China, China was facingan unprecedented national crisis. For a strong patriotism, Kang Youweiand Liang Qichao launched a vigorous Hundred Days Reform Movement, Hunanis one of the most active provinces.
