In the America movies history, there are many stories of Chinese stereotypicalimages. From the extant silent film “Broken Blossoms”, Chinese stereotypical imageshaping in America films had more than100years. After that, lots of classic Chinesestereotypical image of America films have appeared on the screen. In these films,Chinese image is always swing between lovely and hateful, respectable and formidable.There are stereotypes of China of the United States of America film. In the traditionalAmerican movies, Chinese stereotypical images appear as the others, most of them areunder the control of ideology. they are dominated by the western people’s subjectiveimagination with a strong oriental color, especially the people in United States, such asFu Manzhou (the devil image), Charlie Chen (surrender loyalty image), Meimei (sexslave image), Wang Long(the farmer image),etc. At the same time, in America moviesthe images of China are created into a place with key words like “mystery”,“old”,“Misery” and so on. These stereotypical images in the American movies were repeatedin one hundred years, strengthened Chinese stereotypical images and Americans ownsuperiority. In contemporary America films, Chinese stereotypical images are with“Kung Fu” coat, but the essence of them are still in the Westerners minds. Researchesshow that when Film maker is shaping Chinese images, they can hardly escape itsregulation framework. The Chinese images in American films are mostly poor, Chinesemen is sissy, lack of manliness, even the hero is not a normal hero, they are very tame tothe western world, and have no threat at all. Chinese women are easily attracted byforeign men, then falling love with them. This paper analyzed why these images shapedfrom four reasons. Apart from the social and cultural factors, the America viewer’sacceptance of the film, the film maker’s experience and creative mind, Chinese peopleagainst activities and their responses are related to this kind of Chinese stereotypicalimage in American films. Basic on the influence of the Chinese images of Americanfilms bring and reflection, China should try hard on changing "stereotypes" of Chineseimages.
