Meizhou Mazu Temple is the most sacred paradise for Mazu believers,andMeizhou Island plays the irreplaceable position in Mazu belief system.The history ofMazu belief is about thousand years,it changed in the process of disseminating tothe world, and worshiped by a number of people in26countries and areas, andbecame the spiritual pillar of the Overseas Chinese at home and abroad, but also itbecame a part of traditional Chinese culture. This article describes Mazu ceremony,and the impact on believers, organizers, participants and government departments.Mazu belief ceremony becomes popular after "Cultural Revolution", andcombines the traditional elements and modern elements,so that can meet theparticipants’ needs of the worship and they can show a perfect picture in the ritualprocess.At the academic areas, scholars learned Mazu Belief from the history ofarchival science, sociology,from the files,sociology to anthropology, the achievementis fruitful. But use Meizhou Island as a object for the survey,and the combination ofhistorical materials and real life is rare. In this thesis, put Meizhou as the investigation,and classify the ceremony of Mazu belief. On the one hand, it will try to compare thetraditional elements between modern elements in the ceremony of Mazu belief, on theother hand,it will try to analyse the function of Mazu belief ceremony through the useof theory and field survey.At the same time,in classification of the Mazu Belief ceremony,it will discusssomething about Mazu’s birthplace, and detailed records of Meizhou Island15localMazu temples. In the spread of Mazu belief,and put Meizhou Mazu temple as thecore area, and streams around the world.And it will describe the difference of incenseceremony of stream Mazu temples.
