The lexical chunks are somewhat fixed patterns in language. They play a vital part inlanguage study and keep being rather beneficial to language learning. According to the overseasstudents who are learning Chinese, mastering abundance chunks contributes to the fluency andaccuracy of language. Meanwhile, the present researches of Chinese lexical chunks are just atthe starting point and far from sufficient to make the best of the value of lexical chunks. This paper reviews briefly the theory of Chinese lexical chunks and combs the definitionand function of lexical chunks so as to define the related span and connotation. Basing on thepresent situation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL), this author classifies thelexical chunks into three major types: fixed structures, semi-fixed structures and free structures.Considering the specific details of identification and feasibility, the author divided the abovethree types into six smaller types: idioms, proprietary structures, inserted structures, framestructures, sentence patterns and high-frequency combination. Compared with other researchers, this author’s method becomes more workable. In order to observe the acquisition of the learners overseas, this author tries to make aresearch on the dynamic composition corpus of the Beijing Language and Culture University. The language material reflects the errors of learners overseas in learning Chinese. The reasonsof errors are analyzed and the necessity of lexical chunks teaching from one point of view. Thetestees revealed averaged0.5chunks in one sentence. This paper focuses mainly on the procession of lexical chunks in a set of popular textbooks called Bridge. This writer tries to calculate the number and proportion of chunks.Furthermore, the Syllabus of Grammar Grade and Standard of Chinese Level Grade arereferenced so as to showed show the cross relationship of grammar and chunks. The numbers ofchunks existing in this set of textbooks rang from0.9to1.8. This rate overweight the0.5chunkoutput of overseas students. The editors of the Bridge are proved to be conscious of chunks. This set of textbook contributes to the teaching of chunks and set fine models for compilingTCFL textbooks in the future. In the end, this author proposes some corresponding teaching suggestions in compiling TCFL textbooks and points out the direction ahead to probe. It is suggested that the textbooksshould emphasize on the kind of chunks which are easy to remember and generate. Meanwhile, considering different characteristics and errors, the high frequency chunks that are easy toremember and reform should be arranged flexibly so as to bridge the intermediate learners andadvanced learners.
