Study On Gu Guangxu’s Friendship

Gu Guangxu(1731-1797),man of Jinkui Jiangsu Province(In what is now Wuxi), isfamous in poetry and Wu Culture, who was also the celebrity as an honest and uprightofficer during Emperor Qianlong year of the Qing Dynasty. Although he was wellrecorded in history because of his fame in official way, he also had a love of literatureand making fiends of the scribes. I think that he should be worth to pay close attentionto just because he had done certain contribution to the cultural history of literature inpoetry, article and handwriting.Gu Guangxu worked hard on writing. From youth he has created a lot, such as a30volumes poem “Ring Spring Set”, a volume of poetry “Qingxi Yuefu” and so on.Although he was not one of the greatest master in literature, he was well recognized atthat time in view of the rich content, height and open style which got a lot of guys. Itreally had certain value. He took an active part in the public welfare undertakings of thehometown. During the more than ten years of the lecture teaching, he prepared thetextbooks all himself and helped many junior scholars, including Gu Minheng, Gu Gaowho enjoyed quite a reputation at that time. All these had closed contact to his selflesscultivation. Gu collected and printed the Wuxi local poem collection “Liangxi Poem”,which made him be the leader of “Liangxi group of poetry”. He was also made to beone of the most famous persons of Wu Culture. He spent twelve years in screening thepoems of Wuxi during the generals from the Eastern Han Dynasty and compiling the“Liangxi Poem” which made significant contribution for the home culture. In addition,Gu was also a humanitarian with heart of gold. He always cared about the poor people.No matter what he was an official or retired, he always did good to the society throughpractical actions, which made him be the Local celebrity and deeply respected.Gu Guangxu’s achievements in academic and culture fields and public welfareaspect should be first of all due to his own talent and hard work. And then, hebenefited by making friends with many celebrities such as Yang Chaoguan, Zhao Yi,Jiang Shiquan, Wang Chang and so on. The friendship influenced Gu unconsciously inmany ways, which was also the indispensable external factors of his final success. At present, there is no specialism on Gu Guangxu in the academic circles,especially his achievements of literature, which is paid little attention by researchers.Based on this background, this paper starts with the research on Guangxu Gu throughthe pathway of the friendship around him, so as to highlight his contribution in thefield of literature, pursuance of writing literary works and the influence on the literaryworld at that time. Furthermore, we can also tentatively analyze the affection andsignificance of friendship and social condition on Gu’s personality charm and literaryviewpoint.
