During the reign of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, the Qing Dynasty reached a peak, which was flourished and powerful. But seemingly powerful empire faced a deep crisis from the middle of Qianlong, such as the official despotism, the corruption, and the decline of economy. When the Emperor Jiaqing ascended the throne, the empire became fading and rapidly deteriorating, which influenced the people's behaviors and spirit. Beijing was the capital of the Qing Dynasty, where all classes of people lived and worked. The Gentry was one of the privileged classes, including officials and scholars, whose social intercourse activities just can reflect their spirit, social attitudes and values. This thesis was divided into two sections, as following:The Section One: First of all, it explains that the social intercourse activities aimed at establishing and consolidating the interpersonal networks, which were based on the relatives, geographical positions and work. Then it introduces several ways, including visit, banquets, entertainment, parties and salons. But too complicated etiquette also made people extremely tired.The Section Two: Firstly, the social life was filled with luxury and extravagance. The Gentry couldn't afford the expenditure, which caused their life was distress and poor. Secondly, if the Gentry wanted to keep their status, they had to join the cliques and attacked each other. So the corruption happened inevitably. And many people away from the competition in the officialdom made tangible literati, painstaking research, books and poems. But some of them began to focus on the social problems.Finally some general describes the core of Beijing culture. It consists of the royal culture, the gentrification culture and the mass culture. The gentrification culture roots in the royal culture, and the former is an extension of the latter. The mass culture is based on the gentrification culture.
