The thesis concerns translational ideology and ideological translation two dimensionsin translation as the main research objects, combining the CDA framework by NormanFairclough (1989) with the existing approaches of ideology of translation withinTranslation Studies (TS) created by Basil Hatim and Ian Mason (1990;1997), focusing onthe meanings and functions of external ideologies, including social ideologies andtranslators’ ideologies as well as textual ideologies in English political speechtranslations. The author argues that not only ideologies within the original discourses (namely theideological translation) are concentrated on, but the ideologies in interpretation andtransformation process (namely the translational ideology) are focused on during the wholeoperational process of English political discourse translation. There exist translationalideology shift during the translating process of English political discourse, and theideological shift patterns mainly reflect in several ways, including interdiscursive mixing, exproriation for national identity, discourse decentralization and thematic variation intranslation. The analyses that the whole translating process of English political discoursetranslation is influenced by translational ideology, mainly containing media’s politicalattitudes, translators’ emotions of nationalism, and target readers’ values and expectations, which may differ from or conflict with the hidden ideology in source political discourse ormass ideology in the source language society so that the act and the products of politicaldiscourse translating are mostly likely to be influenced. The author points out that study issues about translational ideology and ideologicaltranslation are related to the research of textual ideology. The thesis is based on themethods of critical analysis and interpretation of textual ideology, focusing on criticalanalyzing and translating textual ideology of English political speech which mainlyconcerns the ideological meaning construction and ideological potential meaningtranslation of the vocabulary and grammatical structure in a certain social culturaldiachronic context. The thesis concerns the integration of the change in the nature ofasymmetric power relations of the original texts and ideological construction strategyduring the translating process of ideological meaning translation. Unalignment betweenlinguistic process and realities focuses on the effect and influence of implicitation orexplicitation of the semantic roles on ideological meanings in the translation process. Ideological operation mode and strategy of metaphorical transformation influenceideological meaning construction and ideological potential meaning translationTherefore English political speech translation is influenced by external ideology andpolitical speech itself production also has its own laws, translation is not a simple languageconversion, but social practice activities of special discourse conversions. It is important totake ideology of translation and translation of ideology as a dialectical unity seriously andto regard ideological influence and ideological innovation dialectically in translation.
