The paper makes a discussion on editorial translation from the perspective of ideology. Editorial translation, due to its heavy cultural and ideological charge, plays an important role in the research of the "Cultural Turn" in translation studies. However, it has attracted less attention than it deserves, because most of the studies on translation concentrate on the linguistic aspects. The paper focuses all the attention on exploring the relationship between editorial translation and ideology and the appropriate translation methods.Chapter One states the significance of this study, raises the research question, explains the theoretical perspective, and explicates the research methodology and paper framework. Chapter Two establishes the theoretical bases of this thesis, by exploring literature on ideology and translation. In the light of Ideology and Andrew Lefevere's rewriting theory, the most important consideration during translation is the ideological one, which refers to the translator's ideology, or the ideology imposed upon the translator by other patrons. Chapter Three is a detailed elaboration on what editorial is and its structural features. The analysis is intended to a clear recognition of the nature of editorial. Chapter Four is the key part of this thesis. It analyzes how ideological factors function in editorial translation, exemplified by the Chinese translation of English editorials with samples excerpted from American media as a representation of western media. It is demonstrated through the studies that editorial translation is influenced by various forms of patrons. Chapter Five presents the findings of the study. Editorial translation is under the influence of various patrons. The patrons can decide the selection of source text. Then, there are some practical translation techniques to help translators deal with the ideology charges during editorial translation.
