ZHANG Xun, former name is Chuanshi, another name is Shangyan, alias Yinxiang, andrenamed Shoutong, also alias Shigong, Xiaomaoshan Ren, from Wu County, Jiangsu.He became a candidate in1765(30th, Qian Long), and worked in Department of theComplete Library in the Four Branches of Literature in1769(34th, Qian Long). He is afamous poet, calligrapher and inscription expert.ZHANG Xun was born in October (Chinese traditional calendar),1731(9th, YongZheng), and his ncestral home is Wuchen, Zhejiang. He alluded that ZHANG Jiulingwas his remote ancestor, his six-generation ancestor was the young brother of theforthright minister ZHANG Yongming who has accused not only YAN Song and his son,but also ZHU Dianying (Prince Yi). ZHANG Xun’s clan ancestor ZHANG Fa is a poetin Wu District, and his family ancestors mostly are officials, all of which have anprofound influence to ZHANG Xun. Well affectted by the human culture circumstancesin Wu District and edificated by his family, ZHANG Xun showeed his significant talentin literature when he is a child, and he could write ci poem when twelve, and help WuDingzhang recensing Qishierfeng Zuzhengji when fifteen. After twenty, he travelledJi’nan, Peking, Nanhai, Guanzhong, etc., leaving lots of poems and chorographies, at thesame time, he compiled, checked and writed out The Complete Library in the FourBranches of Literature. He even took charge of Wan’an Granary at his late years. In1789(54th, Qian Long), ZHANG Xun died from illness in Peking, aged fifty-nine.ZHANG Xun gained utmost applause from SHEN Deqian when he was young,well-known for a certain time, and he was eponymous with Jiang Shiquan. Emigrated inPeking, he got to know a mass of scholars, such as WENG Fanggang, WANG Youliang,YAN Changming, CHENG Jinfang, ZHAO Yi etc.. Some poems by ZHANG Xunreflects the fashion of forming associations and responding with poems. At his lateyears, HE Daosheng and some others followed ZHANG Xun studying. ZHANG Xun’swhole life is attached to poems, even when a few days before he died, he was keeping on write poems.This chronicle summarizes the whole life of ZHANG Xun revolveing round hisassociation and literature activities. Including four parts: Introduction, The Chronicle ofZHANG XUn, Appendixes, References. Introduction is an introduction to all ZHANGXun’s life, works and association, expatiating the research actualities and meanings.Chronicle, is according as the order of Year-Month-Day, arranging the deeds.Appendixes includes Discuss on the Association of ZHANG Xun, A Material Collectionon Research of ZHANG Xun and A Collection of Lost Works. Discuss on the Associationof ZHANG Xun, makes a systemic analyse on ZHANG Xun’s association, mostly are thepart of unknown and discommodity in Chronicle. If the man is well-known, TheAssociation will make a discourse on the association with ZHANG Xun, and notwell-known, a textual research on his life. The Collection are the materials which arediscovered by the author when compiled The Chronicle, collectting them together, forthe further reaseach, and A Collection of Lost Works collects ZHANG Xun’s lost poemsand essays. References list every kind of the reference’s name, author and edtioninformation which are quoted in The Chronicle particularly.
