The advent of the Theory of "Possible Worlds" in the20th century has brought aboutprofound change to the worlds of logics and philosophy: the birth of Possible WorldsSemantics, particularly, has engaged scholars in an extensive and penetrating studyconcerning the definition of possible worlds, the role of its ontology and the individualtransworlds. As a basic concept in model logic, Possible Worlds calls for a general definition. Thepaper holds, based on the views of various schools, the possible world is an imaginableabstract reality adhering to objective things without violating logical laws.when the possilbe worlds ontology is concerned, the Substitution Theory (TheInstrument Theory) considers it only as an instrument to modal logic; thus, the study waslimited to modal realism and Moderate realism, and brought up a Neo-Moderate realism, based on a detalied analysis of their respective weaknesses and strengths. When it comes to individual transworlds identification and identity, Modal realists’priority to the entity of possible worlds, based on reality-indexed property, will definitelylead to an impossible explanation of Individual Transworld, as its theory of simulation istechinically and philosophically unoperational. On the other hand, Moderate realists admitthe existence of individual transworlds, however, its reference theory is fairly thin in theiridentification due to the lack of explicit philosophical contemplation and theoreticalsupports. Considering the differences and defects of the two schools of realism, the papermade suggestions as follows: in the context of “reality” world, the Neo-Moderate realismshould be added to the interpretation of possible worlds; And it is necessary to acknowledethe existence of transworlds and seek a reasonable approach to the concerning issues. In sum, a logical definition of possible worlds, a universalizing view of the role ofpossilbe worlds ontology and a proper approach to individual transworlds will be helpfulto further the development of modal logic, which is also the academic value of this paper.
