Sima Zha was not well known as a poet in late Tang Dynasty. There is few record of his experience in all dynasties documents.This paper takes Sima Zha and his poetry as the research object, tries to make a detailed and specific analysis of him and his poem, presents him fully to the world, and aims to make a more objective and further evaluation about him.Firstly, the paper briefly introduces Sima Zha known by the value of his poems, and the research situation of the academic circles at present.The first chapter is about Sima Zha’s life. In this chapter, the author, looking up into the ancient and modern books with the analysis of the poems, finds out the correct name of Sima Zha, who came from Jing Zhao and lived in AD.826-AD.878, and his friends such as Chu Sizong and so on.The second chapter place an important part on explaining Sima Zha’s thoughts. Sima Zha was a poet who had not only secular sentiments, but also fo-dao ideals which are unconventional. His thought was no different from other literati.The third chapter introduces Sima Zha’s poetry content and subject matter. His poems can be roughly divided into new YueFu poems, conversation poems, lyrics and tourist poems, with "Gongyuan"、"Daozhongzaofa" and other standard poems which are worth to reading carefully.The fourth chapter talks about the artistry of Sima’s poems. He got an upper achievement in five letters poems. And his poems are good at expressing ideas though historical items and the language is easy to understand. The article spirits that spouted out from the poems show a general life style of the poets in late Tang Dynasty, which makes Sima Zha’s poems full of humanistic care.The fifth chapter is about the relationship between Sima’s poems and the literature at that time. The downfallen historical background and the ancient style poets group had a outstanding impact on Sima Zha and his poems. With this background, the author analyses the ancient, diluting and other characteristics in Sima’s poems.
