Since news reporting plays a crucial role in global communication in this informationage, the translation of news discourse is essential and should become a new field in thestudies of translation. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) aims to explore the influence ofideology upon discourses, the retroaction of discourses upon ideology and how theyserve different power groups.This thesis elaborates the implicit political elements behind news discourse and theirtranslation from the perspective of CDA, which can help us to explore many moreinteresting and useful new field of study in the texts, and it can guide us to study thesequestions from a different angle.Firstly, previous studies on news translation are reviewed, which mainly paysattention to general linguistic features of new discourses. Then, Critical DiscourseAnalysis (CDA) is introduced to prove that implicit elements are of great importance inthe production and comprehension of news discourses. The implicit elements refer tohistorical background, current reality, regional ideology and value, political andeconomic influence, and other cultural factors, all of which are hidden and seldomnoticed by readers, and at the same time cause difficulties in translating the news reports.This thesis mainly discusses how to discover the implicit political element behind newsdiscourse, and analyzes the problems that are caused by these elements. Finally, someguidelines to deal with the translation of news with implicit political elements in anappropriate way are proposed and used in a complete translating process of a newsdiscourse so as to testify their effectiveness.
