With the trend of globalization, global communication and information dissemination become more and more frequent. Since news reporting is playing a crucial role in the global exchange in this age, the translation of news discourses is necessary and should become a new field in the studies of translation. This dissertation discusses the implicit political elements behind news discourses and their translation from the perspective of critical discourse analysis, which helps us to find many interesting and useful questions in the texts or conversations, and the more important point is that it can guide us to think over and study a question from a different angle.Firstly, previous studies on news translation are reviewed, which are mainly focused on general linguistic and stylistic features of news discourses. Then critical discourse analysis is introduced to prove that implicit elements are of great importance in the production and comprehension of news discourses. The implicit elements are unapparent and seldom noticed by audiences. They refer to social reality, historical background, regional ideology and value, political and economic influence, and other cultural factors, all of which cause difficulties in translating the news reports. This dissertation mostly discusses how to discover the implicit political elements behind news discourses, and analyzes the problems that are caused by such elements. Finally, some strategies and steps are proposed to handle the translation of such implicit political elements in the news in an appropriate way.
