This research focuses on the applicat io n o f Mind Map in higher vocat io na l co llege English reading teaching.In the 1960 s,Mind Map was first ly proposed by Tony Buzan and widely disseminated.However,researches in China,especially those o n the applicat io n o f Mind Map in English read ing class es,have st ill been in the elementar y stage.As a special group,higher vocat io nal students cher ish their own characterist ics.Therefore,this research has attempted to apply Mind Map to the reaching o f higher vocat io nal co llege Eng lish read ing.Based o n the theory o f Knowledge Visualizat io n and Schema Theory,t he researcher has designed a reading teaching plan based o n Mind Map.In the meant ime the researcher start ed fro m t he higher vo cat io nal student s,taking advantages o f t he pre-test,post-test,questio nnaire invest igat io n,interviews and other met hods to conduct the experiment on 70 students fro m two classes in a vocat io nal co llege in Changsha.After a semester o f teac hing act ivit ies,in t he Experimental Class,t he teaching was carried out by the researcher.The researcher used mind maps in t he English reading teaching,while t he Co ntrol Class was taught by the other teacher who applied the tradit io nal Grammar Translat io n Met hod to read ing teaching.This exper iment use d different research met hods.Before the beginning o f t he experiment,two classes were pre-tested and a quest io nnaire survey was co nducted by t he researcher.After the experiment,t he two classes wer e post-tested by t he researcher.Meanwhile,t he researcher conducted a post-quest io nnaire survey and an int erview wit h t he students in t he E xper iment al Class.In the experiment,a survey o f recall ing keywords was co nducted by t he researcher for the two classes three t imes.Then,the researcher co llected the data and co mpared them,and found that the use of Mind Map for the teaching o f Englis h read ing has achieved remarkable result s.The experiment has been designed to study and explore the fo llowing two quest io ns:(1)How does the app licat io n o f Mind Map in English read ing teaching affect the interest o f higher vocat io nal student s in English reading?(2)How does t he app licatio n o f Mind Map in Eng lish read ing teaching affect the aspect o f the understanding o f Engli sh reading co ntent and the English read ing abilit y o f higher vocat io nal students?The study can finally draw the fo llowing conclusio ns:(1)The applicat io n o f Mind Map in English reading teaching can effect ively st imu late the interest o f higher vocat io nal students in English reading.(2)The applicat io n o f Mind Map in English read ing teaching can effect ively enhance t he higher vocat io nal students ’ understanding o f Eng lish reading co ntent and impro ve t heir English reading abilit y.At the same t ime,this is also a ver y meaning ful inno vat ive mo ve for higher vocat io nal English reading teaching.After su mmar izing t he abo ve find ings,the researcher also po int s out so me limit at io ns o f t his study and put s forward so me correspo nd ing suggest io ns for future research.This study has the fo llo wing limit atio ns:(1)The t ime o f the experiment o f this research is relat ively short.(2)The sample size o f t he experimental o bject is a litt le bit small.(3)The impact o f gend er on English learning int erest and abilit ies is not noted.(4)There is no obvious d ist inct io n between the t ypes o f reading art icles in this experiment.
