Research On Inheritance And Development Of Iron Picture Under The Perspective Of Semeiology

Iron picture is the artistic expression of Chinese traditional culture, containing the emotional way, spiritual world, life ideals, value system and aesthetic standards of local people in Wuhu. Its art has been merged with poetic flavor, revealing personality and reflecting on life by pursuit of deserted climate and creation of profound meaning. Besides, Iron Picture represents our awareness and control of life and confidence of art as well. People’s daily consuming needs cannot be fully satisfied by present physical life. Symbolic meaning is attached to consumption. An artistic symbolic phenomenon generated from iron picture appears, bridging the gap between people and culture. Meanwhile, iron picture is also regarded as a traditional cultural code which includes both concrete representative forms and local cultural essence. As an exquisite spiritual creation, its manufacturing process is fairly tough based on technology. The application of its traditional cultural code is an elaborate reconstruction representing its profound cultural connotation and exquisite handwork. The whole process of its creation and forging reflects the quintessence of iron picture.Spirit and moral courage are the two baisc essence of iron picture which is the intellectural product with deep cultural content. So this dissertation focuses on the following aspects:how to apply effectively feature as a traditional cultural code which is considered as a representational form of Chinese national spirit; how to undertand its profound emotion by using of symbolism, metaphor, homophone and narration; Reconsideration of involved traditioanal culture; appliction of code composition rules; grasp of its arbitrary relationship between Signifiant and Signifier; pratical use in daily life.It is extremely urgent to develop iron picture which is suffering from the severe form of survival, poor management, lack of creativity both in content and skill. This dissertation has a research on its symbolic characteristic and digs out the cultural value carried by iron picture. Based on analysis and comparision in symbolic form significance between west and east tradition culture, cultural perspective and emotional view, it seeks internationally and perspectively for the positive role played by semiology. Besides,it proposes protective and inheriting opinions from application in visual communication,environmental design,product design, comic and animation design. It makes a new analysis on the ignored value of iron picture from a totally different angle by discussing its symbolic form and meaning——humanity of Wuhu, district cultrual features, established practice relation under this unique cultrual background. Former experience and value are supposed to be obtained and present problems can be solved through retrospect of initial problems. It is aimed to have a new understanding of traditional China and study and inherit tradional culture by means of local district window. Thus it will guide protection and inheritage of other domestic arts. National traditional consciousness can be cultivated as well and the protection of intangible cultural heritage can be carried out efficiently.This dissertation is only a beginning part and it fills its theoretical blank,which will be continued in the future efforts and thinking. It is strongly hoped that it offers a theoretical framework for the inheritance and protection of iron picture.
