Academic procrastination has beenextensively investigated as one common phenomenon which also studied in china inrecent years. Since the subjects in the previous research mostly came from westerncollege, and the research results mainly focused on descriptive analysis, there isinsufficient research on causal relationship and model construction of academicprocrastination. Therefore, the psychological causes of academic procrastination are notfully understood, and the relationship between academic procrastination and personalityare still in debate. The present study intends to reach the following goals: first, the relationship betweenacademic procrastination and the different statistics of university students such as, major, gender, age, grade, will be investigated thoroughly. Second, based on the ReinforcementSensitivity Theory (RST) and the Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI)model, the internaland external influencing factors of academic procrastination are correlated, therefore thereasonable model of academic procrastination will be set up. Third, according to theresearch result, some advice will be proposed to overcome academic procrastinationmore effectively.By summarizing many previous research results on academic procrastination andinvestigating441students in UESTC, the results of present research are listed as below:(1) The validity and reliability of the Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire and thebehavioral inhibition system and behavioral activation system(BIS/BAS) scale werepromoted after they were revised for university students, therefore they could beapplied in our research.(2) Surveys of student populations suggested that academic procrastination is pervasive, though obvious difference of the procrastination level showed at different grade anddifferent major.(3) Academic procrastination was significant positive correlated with BIS/BAS scale including the BAS Drive (BASD), BAS Fun Seeking (BASFS), BAS RewardResponsiveness (BASRR) and BIS.(4) Academic procrastination was significant negative correlated with over-commitment.(5) BASD and BASFS had mediation effect on the relationship between effort-rewardrate and academic procrastination, BIS had mediation effect on the relationshipbetween overcommitment and academic procrastination.(6) Overcommitment had no regulation effect between ERI and academicprocrastination.
