Self-recognition is an important part of self, and it plays an important role in thedevelopment of other aspects of one’s personality. Research shows that,18months’ old canidentify its’ own body in current situation through the mirror. Then, it is when one couldrecognize the different self perspectives in past, present and future as a unified continuousindividual? On the basis of comprehensive of the past research, introduced the concept of“Delayed Self-recognition” in this study, experiment with the vertical and horizontalcombination way was conducted to investigate the emergence of delayed self-recognition ofchildren. And try to answer the problem that it is when one’s self-recognition start to get thestability crosses time.Study1: The horizontal sample (N=154) was adapted to investigate the delayedself-recognition of children. The cross-sectional study mainly includes two aspects:(1)"Surprising toy" task was conducted to verify that if there is misunderstanding exists inchildren on the delayed self-recognition tests which with the video review as feedbackmedium. And to verify the validation of testing tools of the delayed self-recognition.(2)conducted the trials to all age groups (each3months divided into one group:31-33months’old,34-36months’ old,37-39months’ old,40-42months’ old) in different gender, investigated the age characteristics and gender effect of children’s delayed self-recognition.Study2: the longitudinal sample (N=15) was adapted to investigate the delayedself-recognition of children. Based on the results of the statistics of the cross-sectional study, selected children at proper age, further specified the interval time of testing, and conductedlongitudinal track observation by each1month as interval toward the15subjects, aimed ataccurately determined the occurrence time of the delayed self-recognition. At the same time, the development difference also was discussed. The main conclusions were drawn as follow:1Video as the feedback media to provide information in the testing tools of children’sdelayed self-recognition has its applicability;2Periods from37to39months is important for the emergence of delayedself-recognition, the accurate age of the emergence is38months;3There is no significant gender differences in the Emergence of delayed self-recognitionin children;4Delayed Self-recognition is gradually appeared, from instability to stability.
