Visual masking generalized refers to the phenomenon of decline of the visibility of thetarget stimulus was due to another in space or time on the adjacent the masking stimuluspresentation. In experiments, trying to present a set of visual stimulus called “stimuli”(stimuli). Need to try to recognize or report the project known as “target stimulus”(targetstimulus); and lead to reduced the visibility of the target stimulus is called “masking stimulus”(masking stimulus). This study focus on the similarity of the writing and the pronunciation as well asmeaning contact between the target stimulus and the masking stimulus; with college studentsas subjects, with the commonly used simple Chinese characters as experimental materials.Experiment1, according to the similarity of the wring and the pronunciation of the targetstimulus with the masking stimulus are divided into four types: the masking stimulus and thetarget stimulus of the wring and pronunciation are similar; which the wring is not similar, thepronunciation is similar; which the wring is similar, the pronunciation is not similar; whichthe wring and pronunciation are not similar. The experimental results show that:the writing ofthe target stimulus is similar to the masking stimulus, visual masking effect of which is moresignificant than the writing is not similar; the pronunciation of the target stimulus is similar tothe masking stimulus, visual masking effect of which is more significant than thepronunciation is not similar. Target stimulus and masking stimulus writing and pronunciationare not similar which visual masking is the strongest effect. Target stimulus and maskingstimulus similar pronunciation, writing not similar or target stimulus and masking stimuluswriting not similar, pronunciation similar which visual masking effect is strong. Targetstimulus and masking stimulus pronunciation and writing are similar which visual masking isthe weak effect.Experiment2, according to the meaning contact of the target stimulus with the maskingstimulus is divided into two types: the meaning contact between the masking stimulus and thetarget stimulus that can form a word group; the without meaning contact between the maskingstimulus and the target stimulus that can form unrelated group. The experimental results showthat: the without meaning contact between the target stimulus with the masking stimulus, visual masking effect of which is more significant than the meaning contact between thetarget stimulus with the masking stimulus.
