Repetition Blindness refers to a phenomenon which is the failure to detect or recall the repetition item in rapid serial visual presentation(RSVP for short).Currently,it is often using the English word as material in foreign countries, but with Chinese characters as the research material is less in our country. This study systematically introduces the current status of the study on Repetition Blindness at home and abroad, the theory explanation, and the latest progress about this phenomenon.Previous studies mainly focus on the factors that influence the Repetition Blindness, processing level and internal mechanism by setting different tasks and characteristics of the target stimulus. On this basis, this study is to investigate whether the Repetition Blindness occurs on the items of the same kind by using the animal words as material and whether the non-target words of Chinese characters' pronunciation and form influence the Repetition Blindness.Research was composed of two experiments, and each experiment was divided into two tests, experimental 1 research on the effects of relationships between the target stimulus of the same kind and the relationships between the non-target stimulus and the first target stimulus(C1)of the pronunciation and form on Repetition Blindness.Experimental 2 research on the effects of relationships between the target stimulus of the same kind and the relationships between the non-target stimulus and the second target stimulus(C2)of pronunciation and form on Repetition Blindness. Results in Experimental 1 showed the Repetition Blindness can also occur between two words of the same kind, but the effect of Repetition Blindness was less than repeat words. The effect of Repetition Blindness decreased when the non-target stimulus and the first target stimulus(C1)presented the same pronunciation and form. Results in Experimental 2 showed that there were effects on Repetition Blindness when the non-target stimulus and the second target stimulus(C2)presented the same pronunciation and form.To completely repeating group, the effect of Repetition Blindness decreased, but to repeating group with the same kind, the effect of Repetition Blindness increased. The results indicated:(1)Repetition Blindness can occur when the stimulus belong to the same kind.(2)The type of repeating stimulus was activated,Repetition Blindness is due to the failure of token individual, which supported the token individuation hypothesis.(3)To repeating group, the effect of Repetition Blindness decreased when the non-target stimulus and the target stimulus presented the same pronunciation and form.To repeating group with the same kind, the effect of Repetition Blindness decreased when the non-target stimulus and the first target stimulus(Cl)presented the same pronunciation and increased when the non-target stimulus and the second target stimulus(C2)presented the same pronunciation and form. These results supported the competition hypothesis.
