The art of singing has gone through many various developments from the ancient times.From the single mono music, the middle ages, the art of religion singing, secular singing,polyphonic music until the birth of opera and bel canto during the sixteenth centuries are allthe symbol of the new era of singing arts. From the eighteenth century mainstream of Castratogolden ages, the era of grand opera of the nineteenth century, until the late20thcentury toearly21stcentury, the exemplars of singing arts is going to be diversity. The development ofsinging arts can be described as unprecedented progress. The types of singing are not onlylimited to traditional bel canto, folk singing and secular singing, but also appears to the typesof bel canto, popular, folk. At the same time, the similar voice of Castrato in the18thcenturyappears and the singers who has this special voice come into our vision gradually, impact ourhearing sense.The changes of the aesthetic are developing as the changes of the singing arts. Peoplepreferred Castrato at first while in the19thcentury people advocate natural arts and humansinging.。During the21stcentury, Vitas, Dennis, Aris christofellis in the Europe, Li Yugang,Xiao Ma in China, this kind of singers they turn out to be Castrato. This reflects the aestheticof people is changing from time to time. The career of our singing should adjust to thestandard aesthetic in the modern society. People are longing for the beautiful things, they arepursuing the sound as well in this way. There must be the beautiful things existing during theso-called ‘golden ages’ in the18thcentury of Europe. Gold is expensive and luxury,peopledescribe the voice as gold because that kind of voice is really pretty charming at that time.This leads to many modern singers copy the voice of that period. During the discovery ofCastrato voice, we find ‘pharyngeal tone’, the scientific vocal skills to be Castrato. Thisphenomenon illustrates the developing singing skills and proves the historic progress in thesinging arts.The starting point of this thesis will investigate the varieties of singing modes in order tofind out the Castrato and the similar phenomenon of Castrato, Peking opera Part played byman disguised as women and its history and culture. This thesis will also analyze the changes of the aesthetic in the historical singing to relate to the importance of putting pharyngeal toneinto the vocal teaching. In this thesis, it will divided to four chapters. The first chapter willexplain the artistic of western Castrato. The second and the third chapters will juxtapose thegolden ages of Castrato and the historical phenomenon eastern Peking opera Part played byman disguised as women. The last chapter will summarize historical evolution of the singingaesthetic and ‘pharyngeal tone’, to reproduce the vocal methods.
