China in20th century was experiencing political turbulence and social transformation, when eastern and western culture impact each other and try to integrate. Confronted with social transformation and cultural invasion, Chinese painting especially figure painting underwent the tremendous strike. However, in such a social surroundings, Master Li Keran broke an impressionistic art path that adapts to the conception of modern oriental expressionism.In current period, development of figure painting has also encountered the similar issue to that in20th century. Proceeding with his unique aesthetic taste, this thesis makes a specific analysis on Master Li Keran who has achieved great success in the field of figure painting to explore the method in which he succeeds in inheritance and creation so as to learn a lesson and obtain enlightenment.Structurally, this thesis contains five parts:Chapter one makes a brief introduction to research background, significance, literature review, methodology and technological procedure; several types of figure painting and different periods of artistic style of Master Li Keran will be presented in Chapter two; in Chapter three, the thesis analyzes reasons for influencing Master Li’s artistic characteristics in figure painting, i.e. starting from three aspects ("meaning","form" and "conversion of meaning and form") to conclude his artistic feature, then from source of method (’western method","traditional method" and "ctreative method") and aesthetic source to illustrate reasons for his artistic characteristics; Chapter four makes a comparison between Li Keran and Fu Baoshi’s figure painting in aspects of painting and model to obtain unique aesthetic taste of Master Li; Chapter five is the key part of this thesis, in which practical significance in passing down and creating figure painting is presented through analyzing issues that Master Li solved.
