A Study On Chen Tingzhuo’s Yunshao Collection

Chen Tingzhuo was well-known for his Baiyuzhai Cihua of lyrical theory in the late Qing Dynasty, and the study on him is always a hot point in the history of studying. Scholars generally consider that Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrical theory can be separated into two parts. The prophase is represented by Yunshao Collection, belonging mostly to Zhexi School. The later stage is represented by Ci Ze and Baiyuzhai Cihua, belonging mostly to Changzhou School. Although scholars study a lot on him, either ignore his lyrical theory in the prophase and his theory in the later stage, or ignore the evolution process. Over all, the study on Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrical theory in the early is weak, and short of the contemplation of his whole theory.This paper try to make these shortages better. It focuses on the study of Yunshao Collection and ChenTingzhuo’s lyrical theory in the early stage, which made a contribution to the shaping of Baiyuzhai Cihua, and try to make Chen Tingzhuo’s whole lyrical theory system clearly. The author believes that Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrical theory in the early stage belongs to Zhexi School, but wasn’t limited to it, and he may have the contact with Changzhou School a little. It provided an opportunity for the changing in his later stage. That is to say, from the outside, we can summarize his lyrical theory to Zhexi and Changzhou in two fractions, but from his lyrical theory itself, we can regard it as a progress of deepening understanding and developing theory.This paper can be divided into four parts. The introduction focuses on Chen Tingzhuo’s basic message and the studies on Yunshao Collection. Chapter one talks about the overview of Yunshao Collection including it’s writing and spreading, rule of edit, the origin of Ci, and trying to give a time when Chen Tingzhuo have contacted with Changzhou School. Chapter two starts from microcosmic, focuses on two lyrical theory problems Elegant and Gloomy, in order to reseach the progress of changing for Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrical theory. Chapter three starts from macro, talking about Chen Tingzhuo’s changing in his lyrical theory, and regarding Wang Qisun and Zhou Ji as entry points. It compares the two important ages, Song and Qing Dynasty, to see the specific affect of Zhexi and Changzhou school for him. In the end, it focuses on why Yunshao Collection belongs to Zhexi School.Chen Tingzhuo is not only a theory expert but an excellent poet. Although he was not very famous in Qing Dynasty, we can feel his theory in his lyric. So I attach a study on Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrics Baiyuzhai Cicun, and a list on the number of writers in Yunshao Collection and Ci Ze in order to see the changing of Chen Tingzhuo’s lyrical theory clearly.
