A Study Of The Changes Of Chen Tingzhuo's Thoughts On Ci In The Early And Later Periods

Chen Tingzhuo was a famous scholar of Ci in the late Qing Dynasty who has play edaconnecting role in the field of Ci.With his academic experience from Zhe xi School to Chang zhou School,his thoughts of Ci poetry also present two different styles.In the early stage,Chen Tingzhuo attached himself to the thoughts of Zhexi School and formed a complete understanding of Ci style and the concept of "elegance".In the later stage,under the influence of teachers and friends,he devoted himself to the Changzhou School and reconstructed his own Ci theory system,"the theory of gloomy".First,in the aspect of status recognition,Chen Tingzhuo started from the musicality of Ci,and formed the source thoughts of CI literature "from ballad to Yuefu".However,he still pushed Ci to the side position of "filling the poetry gap" in the relationship between poetry and CI.Later,Chen Tingzhuo regarded Ci style as "the school of coquettish",showing the tendency of transformation from aesthetic form to spiritual essence,and at the same time,he pushed the status of Ci style to the height of "poetic unity".Second,in terms of the purpose of Ci,Chen Tingzhuo discussed CI with "Elegant poetic style" in the early stage,emphasizing that CI should be euphemism,resentment but not angry,beautiful and have rules,but also showed a preference for "gloomy" thoughts.In the later stage,Chen Tingzhuo put "Elegant poetic style" aside,and began to discuss CI with "gloomy",realizing the transformation from style theory to creation theory,creating the masterpiece "gloomy theory".Finally,in the aspect of criticism,Chen Tingzhuo always held an inclusive attitude towards popular literature in the early stage,and adhered to the concept of "advocating form".In the later stage,he changed his former position,showing a tendency of "advocating elegance and suppressing vulgar literature" and "content is important to form".The last chapter focuses on the causes of the changes of Chen Tingzhuo's Ci thoughts.The theoretical differences between Zhexi School and Changzhou school are the direct causes of the differences between Chen's Ci thoughts before and after,but they are not the essential factors that cause this change.On the one hand,with the maturity and progress of CI studies,Chen Tingzhuo's concept of respect for status has been strengthened,and he is no longer satisfied with the position of adjunct to CI.He began to narrow the distance between poetry and Ci and advocated the theory that "poetry and CI are the same".On the other hand,the deteriorating situation has broken Chen Tingzhuo's original "psychological and social stability".In order to reconstruct the balance of individual psychological society,Chen Tingzhuo's original conservative ideology began to consciously establish contact with the outside world,thus creating a "gloomy" theory with the color of "practical use".At the same time,Chen Tingzhuo also reestablished the concept of "making a immortal literature" in the life blow of failing in the exam and dying of relatives and friends,thus contributing to the deepening of the influence of poetics.
