The Study Of Relationships Among Paranormal Belief,Creative Tendency And Critical Thinking Disposition In Chinese Adolescence

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship among creative tendency, critical thinking disposition and belief in the paranormal. First, based on literature review, interview and experts’s advice, a Paranormal Belief questionaire fitted for Chinese adolescents was made out. Subsequently, a total of686students were given the Paranormal Belief questionaire, the Willams Creative Tendency Test (Willams,1980) and the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (Facione,1995) respectively.The results are as follows:(1) The overall level of paranormal belief among adolescents is low;(2)There are statistically significant differences of adolescents’paranormal belief on gender, religion, education level, major and family location.(3) There are statistically significant differences of adolescents’ creative tendency on education level. Besides, there are also statistically significant positive correlations between paranormal belief and creative tendency. Imagination (a factor of creativity tendency) can significantly positively predict paranormal belief; (4)There are statistically significant differences of adolescents’Analyticity and Systematicity (two facor of critical thinking dispostion) on different education level.The findings show no significant correlations between critical thinking disposition and paranormal belief, but there are statistically significant correlations between critical thinking disposition and involvement in the paranormal.(5) For the senior students, Systematicity can significantly negatively predict the involventment in Campus superstious game,and Open-minded ness can significantly positively predict it; For the college students, Inquisitive ness can significantly negatively predict involvement in traditional superstious activities;(6)There are statistically significant positive correlations bettween the overall scores of adolescents’critical thinking disposition and creative tendency scores. Imagination, Systematicity, Truth-Seek ing, Inquisitive ness and curiosity can significantly predict the frequeny of involvement in the paranormal. Imagination is the most effctive positive predicor of involvement in the paranormal. Systematicity, and Truth-Seeking significantly negatively predict the senior students’s superstitous involvement, while Curiosity and Analyticity significantly negativele predic the college students’s involvement in the paranormal;...
