First of all, book is not merely a process solely accomplished by thebook designers, but the cooperation and teamwork with the author, the publisher,the editor, the designer, the printer and bookbinder involved; additionally, everydetails related to books, including the book cover, the ring line, the flyleaf, thecontents, the text, the characters, the images, every marks or the line as well as the book estuary and backbone even the process flow and material selection,altogether compose the important procedures in book design. In the case ofbooks’ structure, book is a three-dimensional “structure”; its mould is athree-dimensional spatial form constituted by several side faces including thebook cover, the back cover and the backbone etc.; in the meantime, the structureinside also constitutes the three-dimensional visual form. The time concept isalso infused in the modern book form design, which, in the process of turningbooks, can generate the dynamic beauty. The ultimate aim of book design is tooffer convenient reading, embody the appreciation of beauty in its functions andpromote the spiritual appeal which the book and text pursue. Now in such ainformation era with its science and technology developing in high speed,modern book design pays more and more attention on the wonderful contextand the books of new form which demonstrate the graphical visual language asthe main manifestation.
