Humans have two types of communications:verbal communication and nonverbal communication.Researchers have done a lot of work on verbal communication and also they made great achievements about this area. On the contrary, nonverbal communication has only attracted concentration from the middle of last century. But nonverbal communication plays a more important role in face to face communication. It is estimated that up to70%of the meaning of a message is transmitted by nonverbal ways and only30%is transmitted verbally. It is easy to see that nonverbal communication will determine the success of a communication.With the promotion of china’s political and economic status in global world, more and more Foreigners want to learn Chinese to learn china’s colorful culture or as an investment for future career. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the training of teachers of Chinese as a foreign language. These Chinese teachers not only bear the task of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, but also face cultural adaptation and cross cultural communicative problems. Their Cross cultural communicative competence will effect whether they can complete their teaching task successfully.However in our country, Nonverbal communication has not been separately mentioned in the foreign language teacher training curriculum system. So based on a lot of reading and discussing of constractive nonverbal communication, the writer of this essay made a summary of Chinese and English gestures and try to present a plain view on nonverbal communication course.
