The Clan Source-identity Research About Tangs’Dongxiang Muslim In Tangwangchuan

The identity consciousness of Tangs’ Dongxiang Muslim in Tangwangchuan(located in Dongxiang autonomous County, Linxia Hui autonomous district, Gansu)is intricate. They keep the consciousness of being a progeny of Han while they think themselves as a Dongxiang people and a pious muslim at the same time.According to historical research, the Ethnic identity of Tangs’(who share their life in Tangwangchuan today) ancestors is Han. Since the settled of Canjiang Tangren who comed from Liu-village Sichuan in Yuan dynasty, the population of Tang develop rapidly, more than the local residents gens. So it has become one of the largest group in Tangwangchuan now.But with the passage of time, some Tangs’ off springs had changed their religious beliefs and to convert to Islam by the influence of successive governments in history, but the consciousness about being an off spring of Canjiang Tangren still keep completely. By the time of Ethnic identification work, with the careful identified by ethnic identification experts and take the strong subjective intention of local people into account, the establishment of Dongxiang nationality makes some Tangs’ muslim become Tangs’Dongxiang muslims. They keep the consciousness of being a progeny of Han and an identification of Dongxiang nationality while they think themselves as a pious muslim at the same time.It tends to a futher question:With the influence of several core identity factors, is it possible for a ethnic group to maintain its daily life normal and have a peaceful contact with other groups? If it is, in which way can make it possible?Although there are few difference between the Islamic and traditional Chinese culture in the world outlook, but there are still some deviations in details. However, Tangs’ Dongxiang muslim solved this problem successfully in real life. This paper aims to explore the logic behind which direct Tangs’ Dongxiang Muslim to deal with the problem caused by the contradiction between Han ethnic’s source, their own national identity and Muslim identity.This paper, take the angle of ethnic identity, using literature survey method and the field work, to discuss the identity(the identity of being a progeny of Han, a Dongxiang people and being a muslim) of Tangs’ Dongxiang muslim in Dongxiang autonomous County, Linxia Hui autonomous district, Gansu. The core-logic behind "Family" can be concluded under the further analysis of the wisdom which is used to avoid the conflict produced by three core factors above. The result that Tangs’Dongxiang muslim could contact with other groups and "His Family" peacefully under the influence of three different core factors is due to the "family" social foundation and the grasp of "Family"The author believed that the research of Tangs’ Dongxiang muslim can enrich the theory of ethnic identity better. At the same time, through the research of several core identity, to explore the logic-behind of how to desalinate the contradiction produced by those different identity should be a concern our national policy must focus on, and an indispensable aspect of the harmonious society construction in the minority regions of China.
