On Narrative Strategy Of Ha Jin’s Watiting

Ha Jin, the representative Chinese immigrant writer who writes in non-native language, almost takes all the literary awards in U.S.A. Waiting is awarded twice. However, both Ha Jin and his works are controversial in the country. It is argued that the "exotic" of Chinese stories (most involved the Cultural Revolution) and the impure English, which should be criticized, are to please Western readers. This phenomenon reserves our attention and reflection.Based on the previous research, this paper tries to analyze Ha Jin’s Waiting from its selection of, language, narrative skill and theme. First of all, Waiting is not about a "immigration story "but a "Chinese story ". Secondly, his English is characterized by Chinese language. Thirdly, while the postmodern writing skills are popular, Ha Jin adheres to realistic narration. Fourthly, although the story in Waiting comes from China, its theme is universal, or worldwide--the exploration of its selection of problems.As a conclusion, we will find that Ha Jin is actually a global writer. The writing technique in Waiting is unique. This paper tries to understand Ha Jin in a new way. At the same time, we hope it will be helpful to get more readers for the Chinese immigrant literature and to enlarge the influence of Chinese literature.
