A Comprehensive Study Of "Little Reunion"

Eileen Chang is undoubtedly one of the most controversial writers in the history of modern Chinese literature, whether it is her writing style or her own life legend for the different special."Little Reunion" as her last completed novel, with its autobiographical nature of the creative features and subversive way, so that readers in the creation of her and her cognition had a huge impact and breakthroughs.As a special writer’s special text, of course,"Little reunion" since the publication has been cause for concern. These opinions includes the dispute of the book copyright, questions for the meaning of the publication; also includes the reproof of her life experiences and the re-evaluation of her personality; also includes the argument about the text of the novel, the suspicion of creativity and the creating value of Zhang’s last yearsIn this paper, the methods of textual analysis and close reading were used, in combination with the results of academic research on Eileen and all of the statements on "little reunion", I sorting out the basis of the comments on the "little reunion," and the value of the text and given them my own analysis, to try to discuss more comprehensively and completely in two aspects about the external dispute of the created and published and her own traits of creation. In addition to the first two parts of the analysis of the creative motives about novel’s autobiographical writing, and sort out the clues of publication, the paper also focuses on demonstrating the novel’s narrative characteristics of the constantly switching space-time and the use of circular narrative technique, besides that, I also have analysis of the special significance of the war described by Zhang and the affect from the war to Zhang’s characters and value. Ailing from the novels the characters mapped to the contrary, Zhang emotional depression and craving for love the contradictions inside. In the paper, we can see the inner contradictions of Eileen Chang on the other hand, repression and desire for love, from the characters’emotion in the novel who Zhang mapping in.
