Whatever in realistic aspects or science, oil painting have reached a peak in Renaissance Europe, it is impossible to reach this height for Chinese oil painting. But in freehand brushwork, Chinese oil painting has ridden the dustTherefore, the author believes the reason for the formation and development of image oil painting is that it is largely affected by Chinese traditional culture, especially traditional Chinese painting. Image oil painting as China’s homegrown painting, whose growth and development owe to the continuous exploration and practice of oil painters, under the considerable influence of traditional Chinese culture and Chinese Ideological system. Thus, the author want to embark on the relationship between "image oil painting" and "traditional Chinese painting", namely image oil painting’s reference to traditional Chinese painting in freehand brushwork, to seek accord point of them. On the basis of summarizing the concept of image and image oil painting, and features of image oil painting, the author conducts the research through practical analysis about image oil painters’works, combining image oil painting’ s two big references in ideas and techniques to traditional Chinese paintings.On one hand, it can guide readers to understand the image oil paintings from the perspective of traditional Chinese painting, which can be regarded as he development and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture. On the other hand, it is designed to find theoretical support for the practice of image oil painting.
