The reward is awards or recognition given by the highest ruler to hissubordinates for their credit,including material reward and honor reward. This papertakes Eastern Wei and Northern Qi Dynasty of material reward for research object,from reward’s objects, types, mechanism, characteristics and the impact of theaspects to analyze,and specific understanding of Eastern Wei and Northern QiDynasty of political, military, economic, society and other aspects of the situation.The first chapter is an introduction, it is the paper’s preparation, and mainlydescribes the paper’s selected topic significance and the research of present situation.Through the summary of related research results,we find research gaps, and putforward problems to be solved, on this basis, generalize the thinking of writing inthis paper.The second chapter is mainly summary of material reward’s object from fiveaspects. Those who have special status, or have since set up service achievements, orhave personal skills have won the reward. What’s more, their status is different, asBeiZhen’ noble, an ordinary soldiers, civilians, and other regime’s surrenders, and soon, a wide coverage.The third chapter discusses the reward of the species, mainly divided into five:one is the agricultural and livestock products, including corn, rice, horses, cattle andother livestock; Second, crafts, including textiles, garments, gold and silver jewelryand coins, musical instruments, car of funeral and so on; Three is fields, houses andorchard; Four is slaves and music player; Fifth, medicine and wine. In Eastern Weiand Northern Qi Dynasty, the reward’s species are various.The fourth chapter discusses the reward’s mechanisms, Reward program toreward has two parts of the decision-making and execution. Reward decision has both the emperor’s decision and court’s decision, it has to do with the politicalsituation at that time. Reward execution requires the system of three provinces andsix ministries and nine ministers’s mutual collaboration, to combine reward’s objectsand reward of the species, thus achieve the goal of the emperor for a reward.The fifth chapter on the basis of the above, summarized the characteristics ofthe reward. First of all, the Eastern Wei period’s national material reward fromtwo–Xiao Jing Emperor and Gao Huan and his son. Secondly in Eastern Wei and theearlier stage of Northern Qi, the main reward’s objects are BeiZhen’ noble, but, inthe later stage of Northern Qi, the main objects become sycophant. Moreover, inNorthern Qi period, emperor of the reward’s right strengthens gradually, reward ismore and more reflect the will of the emperor. Fourth, crafts for reward have a largerproportion, and in industrial goods, textiles for reward are more. Finally, reward hasthe characteristics of ‘varying’.The sixth chapter analyzes the impact of the Eastern Wei and Northern QiDynasty of national material reward, both positive and negative aspects. In thepolitical and military aspects, the material reward mobilizes the enthusiasm of thesoldiers and officials; in society, it can maintain social stability; in the economy, itstimulats economic development, and strengthens exchanges with minorities.However, too much reward encourages corruption culture of luxury, at the same timereward also increases government’s spending, increases the burden of the people,and there is an imbalance in the emperor’s reward, causes contradictions among theruling class, it is not conducive to unity of war.
