As the development of globalization, the Chinese booming is more and more popular.Thailand is not only our neighbor, but also our strategic partner. Chinese teaching in Thailandis taken seriously by the Chinese government and Thai government. Since2003, the Chinesegovernment sends Chinese Volunteer teachers to Thailand every year and more and moreChinese volunteer teachers come to Thailand teaching Chinese. This year, the amount is thelargest in history and there are around1300Chinese volunteer teachers who come toThailand for teaching Chinese. In Thailand, from Kindergarten to university, many schoolsopen Chinese class.This year, I come to Thailand teaching Chinese as a volunteer in a private technologycollege. During almost one year, through doing surveys and conversation talk, I get someinformation about Southern College of Technology, the students’ features and their Chineselearning, the Chinese teachers and Chinese teaching. Through survey, I get the informationabout the students using learning strategy in Chinese learning. Also, through my teachingexperience here, I know the problems on Chinese teaching. Basing on it, through my analysis,I try to give some teaching strategies and suggestion for the Chinese teaching in SouthernCollege of Technology.This paper aims on knowing the problems about Chinese teaching in Southern Collegeof Technology. Through the learning strategy survey and some other aspects, for example,their interest and attendance on Chinese class, I try to find the factors that affect their learningeffect. Based on my teaching experience and analysis, I will give some teaching strategiesand suggestion to improve the Chinese teaching in this college.This paper regards74students as respondents and they are majored in Computer,Commercial and Hotel tourism. There are altogether two surveys. The first survey aims toknow the basic information about students, including age, sex, interest in learning Chinese,motivation. The second survey aims to know what learning strategies the students use inChinese learning. I also do some conversation talk for some students, workmates and thedean.Through my teaching experience and the surveys in Southern College of Technologyduring almost one year, I find that Chinese teaching is not taken seriously in this college. Thestudents are a little bit lazy and they do not like learning. According to their survey paper, thestudents use emotion and metacognitive learning strategies most, the next are social andcognitive learning strategies, the use memory and compensation learning strategies the least. Ihelp the students to do their learning plans and goals through Chinese class based on theteaching plan and the students’ ability. I also introduce and train the students to use learningstrategies on Chinese learning. In this way, the students learn Chinese better and the Chineseteaching gets better effects in Southern College of Technology.
