Zhang Dai-nian is the famous philosopher, philosophy historian, philosophy educator and Great Masters in modern China. His "synthetic innovation" philosophy has first come into being when he put forward the creative idea of "a new way of philosophy will be the combination of Materialism, ideal, and Analytical synthesis "in the1920s and1930s. With the completion of the "Outline of Chinese Philosophy","Five Treatises of nature and human" and other philosophical papers from1920s to1940s, a system of Zhang Dai-Nain’s philosophy have been established. It is under the heads of synthetic innovation philosophy that Zhang Dai-nian combines traditional Chinese philosophy and Marxist dialectical materialism with Logic analytical method of western philosophy, and established his new synthetic philosophy. The philosophical concept of "unity contradiction" is initiated by him, and it is the critical inheritance and sublimation of Chinese traditional philosophy thought of "unity"Zhang Dai-nian’s philosophy is profound, closely argued, and style rigorous. He has explored a new way of Chinese traditional philosophy to be updated and modernized and thus established a new system and model of philosophy. And such exploration has opened a new path for the Chinization of Marxist philosophy, as well as made a contribution in combining Chinese philosophy, western philosophy and Marxist philosophy. This paper is to summarize and generalize Zhang Dai-nian’s view of philosophy and give an objective evaluation, based on the study of his works.
