Study On The Creation Tendency Of Pingyang Drama Circle

The creation tendency of Pingyang Drama Circle which is one ofthe four drama circles of Yuan Dynasty, should be but haven’t beenpaid much attention to. Its academic value is undoubted, so thewriter makes a preliminary exploration on this issue.The introduction of this paper does up the research history andthe current situation of Pingyang Drama Circle and discusses thesignificance of this study. The first part defines Pingyang DramaCircle, and discusses the proposal of the concept and the questionof whether the circle exists or not, relatively sufficiently reveals itsconnotation from these four aspects—geography, time, writers andworks, and performance characteristics. In the second, third andfourth part,first delimit the “virtue” clearly, then based on furtherinterpretation of works of the circle, proposes that the creationtendency of Pingyang Drama Circle is “local sentiments”and“only-virtue nobility”. The writer is convinced that one third of theworks are about affairs and people in Shanxi, both of distinct “localsentiments”；then elaborates the embodiment in the works of virtueof the monarch and main ministers, virtue of state and county,virtue of mother and father、daughter and son, wife and husband,and following each sub-argument, the writing motivation is given. The rest briefly concludes the whole paper and points out someunsatisfying parts and research disadvantages. May this brief papercan make some contribution to the study of the zaju of YuanDynasty.
