A Translation Project Report On The Three Body Ⅱ The Dark Jungle (Excerpt)

This is a translation project report on an excerpt from the science fiction TheThree Body II The Dark Jungle written by Liu Cixin. In this excerpt, by utilizingthe dialogue between the two heroes, the writer put forward his original theory, theLaw of Dark Jungle, which is also an ingenious explanation for the famous FermiParadox in the astronomy research and Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence(SETI) project. In the eyes of this report, the purpose for this translation is todeliver the writer’s intention and idea definitely and precisely to the target readersso that they can have a clear mind about the theory and resonate with it. Thus, onthe basis of Skopos, this report will elaborate the guiding significance of the threerules of the Skopos in the translation activities by the analysis of such thetranslation techniques as literal translation and liberal translation, domesticatingtranslation and foreignizing translation which have been comprehensivelyemployed during the translation of those contents which reflect the differencebetween Chinese and western cultural background and expressions. This reportconsists of4parts. The first one introduces the background, purpose and structureof this project. The second parts backgrounds the source text and the writer. Thethird parts mainly elaborate the difficulties encountered and techniques employed.The final parts conclude the implications and lessons, as well as some unsolvedproblems during this project.
