This is a translation report for translating two papers of the second part ofDeveloping Translation Competence. The report gives a brief introduction to and ananalysis of main language features and the difficulties in the process of translationunder the guidance of Catford’s translation theory. The analysis shows that as acollection of papers with the purpose of providing guidance and teaching experience,the source text features seriousness, clarity and complication in language, logic andstructure respectively. Therefore, in the course of translating, the translation shiftappears. Under the guidance of the theory of translation shift, the author makes greatefforts in translating the words, sentences and texts in order to keep the informationauthentic and accurate as well as to keep the target text meet readers’ reading habit.The report also points out that since the translation report involve only two papers, thetranslation experience is individual and not comprehensive enough. Above all, theperfect and most direct criterion is the readers’ response.The report includes four chapters: chapter one shows the background informationand significance of the translation project; chapter two makes a brief introduction tothe source text and an analysis of the main language features and difficulties. Basedon that, the translation strategy for the project is raised; chapter three presents themajor translating methods adopted in the project and analyzes them with examples;chapter four concludes the experiences and lessons learned from the translationpractice.
