Takeoff and landing stages have always been accident prone during aircraft operation,and as the place where aircrafts take off and land,ensuring runway operation safety is of great significance.In recent years,in order to expand airport capacity,airports have been expanded and the number of runways has increased.However,this has also increased the complexity of runway operations,and preventing the occurrence of runway safety incidents has become increasingly important.Therefore,translating the original foreign language runway safety guide manual into Chinese to help civil aviation practitioners and enthusiasts learn and understand runway safety specifications has very important practical application value.The purpose of this thesis is to systematically analyze the application of level and Category Shift in the practice of scientific and technological English translation under the guidance of Catford’s translation shift theory,combining the characteristics of civil aviation English and translation examples,and explore how to apply Catford’s translation shift theory to ensure the accuracy of civil aviation English text translation,improve the quality of translation,and provide reference for the future translation of similar texts.
