In the1980s, we have experienced the painful baptism of the Cultural Revolution.a group of intellectuals began to floating to the history with their knowledge and ideal.They look at the past, self-discovering, hold high the banner of idealism into thesocial construction, the writer Zhang Chengzhi is also one of them. His identities arefrom the Red Guards, educated youth, and the ‘God’s favored one’-college student.Zhang Chengzhi’ creation includes these three identities’ Spiritual Evolution, like allyoung people in the1980s, he has tirelessly vitality and a rallying cry passion forpursuit freedom,romantic and ideal on the road. But after1990, due to thedeepening of the market economy and the impact of historical events in the end of1980s, the large number of intellectuals with "Square awareness" facing the choice ofcareer path and spiritual direction,they began to turn their direction. However, ZhangChengzhi continued holding the1980s’ idealism characteristics to seek self-worth andto find a spiritual home, even the ideal has become more profound, more rational, andit pointed to religion finally. This paper use the process of backtracking, researchingin the1980s and the1990s,finding the different phenomenon from them, as well asresearching Zhang Chengzhi’s insistence in the works of these two periods, take hiscreative essence and change as the basis of classification. The article is divided intothree chapters to diachronic retrospect of writer’s concept in the two decades, whichaim at rethinking the history and culture, rethinking the present.
