As a figure in literary works, Liu Yi is an intellectual with sense of justice. He sympathized with the misfortune of Dragon Lady, and regardless of numerous difficulties and dangerous to help her send the letter to her family, which showed the noble integrity of a scholar. Liu Yi legend spread across many areas and the Dongting Lake area in Hunan is its center. There is also spreading many legends of Liu Yi, Dragon Lady and Dragon King in YinjiaShuangmiao Village, SongjiaShuangmiao Village and Qijia Village, Hanting District, Weifang City, Shandong Province, which even completed the conversion of Liu Yi legend to Liu Yi faith. Liu Yi in local was invested with rank of Tanghe King, and in Qijia Village, Liu Yi is regarded as Liu’s ancestor, being worshiped very much.Liu Yi is respected as the local patron god in belief systems and passed down along with the temple fairs and legends. The reason for this is closely related with the physical geography and human living environment. Liu Yi faith is produced through adapting to the needs of the people, then had changed to adapt to the official need. In the whole process, it highlighted the vitality of local people and the vitality of villages faith, which is worthy to further exploration.Based on the above consideration, this paper is divided into six parts. The first part was an introduction, which described the significance of the topic, the origin and methods of the research object, made a brief review of the research status of Chinese folk beliefs as well as contemporary legends and beliefs about Liu Yi. The second part introduced heritage space of Liu Yi faith, including natural geography, historical context and cultural heritage. The third part made a compared analysis to Liu Yi legends, to discuss the localization of Liu Yi legends and the reason of formation of Liu Yi faith. The fourth part described the solid-state temples and dynamic temple fairs, based on this, to discuss people’s secular expression of the divine faith. The fifth part discussed the inter-village relations based on Liu Yi faith, including the inter-village relations in daily life, the contest during building temples, the impact of fictitious kinship, and so on. The last part is a summary, and made a expand thinking of Liu Yi faith in the future.
