Taste derives from the feeling and sense of life. This paper holds "taste"--an aesthetictheory terminology which is characterized by Chinese classical aesthetics--as the coretopic, attempting to analyze Feng Zikai’s aesthetic theory formed in the process of artisticcreation and aesthetic education in twentieth Century which lasted for half a century. Thispaper puts Feng Zikai’s aesthetic theory in the perspective of"taste" and tries to do someresearch as follows: firstly, this paper will traces back to the traditional aesthetics as theorigin of his aesthetic theory and highlights its classical feature; secondly, aesthetic ideal isfull of humane care and its emphasis on taste has internal consistency with and "taste"’sattention to individual survival state, they are both external expression of life theory.This paper consists of three parts: preface, main body and conclusion. The prefacepart contains the introduction to Feng Zikai, the present situation of research on Feng Zikaiand the theoretical innovative point of this paper. The main body is divided into fourchapters. The first chapter traces back to the historical origin of "temperament" and "taste",and discusses the development and changes of the relationship between them, trying toclarify how the two words evolute into a compound word"taste". The second chapterattempts to analyse the aesthetic connotation of Feng Zikai’s theory of taste and discuss inthree aspects: the state of aesthetic subject, the generation and appearance of the aestheticobject, and the combination rules in the aesthetic activity. The third chapter discusses thecharacteristics of Feng Zikai’s aesthetic expression, aesthetic emotion and aesthetic idealfrom three different dimensions: reality, art and religion. The fourth chapter analyses thevalue system of Feng Zikai’s theory of taste, the first part discusses the historical valuewhich focuses on the location of theory of taste in modern Chinese aesthetic history; the second part discusses the contemporary value and explains how Feng Zikai’s theory oftaste inspired aesthetics of contemporary life.
