On Rorty’s View Of Truth And His New Pragmatism

Rorty combined some of the concepts and methods of the native pragmatism,analytic philosophy and hermeneutics.criticized the fundamentalism and essentialism,developed a post-modern theory of new pragmatism.This article makes a survey about Rorty’s view of truth,starting from its source and along with the development of his thought.Rorty believed that "truth as correspondence"and early analytic philosophy are glassy philosophy,we might get rid of mirror of nature,abandon the truth view that was formed under this kind of framework of theory and observe the truth issue from a new angle.On the knowledge of the truth,Rorty equate metaphor with truth,it can be said that the understanding of "truth" is unique.He believed that "Language"is not correspondence of the media,but a metaphor,it is a tool for communicating.Metaphor is a language phenomenon,it is created constantly.Truth can be made instead of being found,and this can prove that it is complicate and impossible to reveal the justification of knowledge for the purpose of knowing the truth.This article believes that Rorty’s view of truth can’t be disregarded as relativism.Also he proposed questions concerning with philosophy itself,the truth itself and language itself,which are of grate importance and independence to our present study of philosophy.Thoughts of pragmatism,language and metaphor,etc.,in his truth view,which reach the same goal or the conclusion from different approaches with the postmodernism of modern Europe continent,and it represents the intrinsic tendency of the development of philosophy,which are worthy of further investigating.
