A New Image Of Philosophy

Philosophy has lost its dominant status among various cultural entities today, and its independent character is also queried once and again. Rightly according to this point, Rorty's post-philosophical culture denies existence of great philosophy and instead of small philosophy, which considers philosophy as a form of culture and a kind of voice in human conversations. Philosophy can not serve as a judge among various cultural entities, neither offer foundation for them. Rorty's thoughts are criticized by many professional philosophers, either his departing from the classics is far beyond their tolerance. However, in order to find a new way to improve the development of philosophy, Rorty overthrows tradition, advances a new perspective of philosophy and culture, to some extent, which is helpful for us to reflect and confirm the character, function, position and effect of philosophy in today's development of society and culture.This dissertation discusses Rorty's post-philosophical culture on these following aspects: the logical starting point, basic theory, essential characters and its success and failures. It is divided into four parts:Part â…  : The logical starting point of post-philosophical culture: a critique of traditional western philosophy. According to Rorty's point, traditional western philosophy focuses on epistemology, consider philosophy as a mirror of nature. Its classical pattern is Plato's Theory of Idea, Rene Descartes' Les Meditations Met physiques and Kant's Transcendental Philosophy. From a heart of reason to a heart of inherent world, its basic character is considering a human heart as a mirror of nature, which can reflect the outside existence, and form the representation, then knowledge can be attained. As a result, it not only prescripts principles of traditional methodology of western philosophy, but also grows the topics of it. The invention of philosophy is to build an eternal and anti-historical framework of knowledge, which offers foundation and methods for human culture activities.
